This three-year accredited graduate degree gives you the chance to build knowledge of the law from a global and social justice perspective. La Trobe focuses on developing your skills in critical thinking, analysis, advocacy, mediation and negotiation. In first year, you will cover dispute resolution and the principles of constitutional, tort, public and criminal law. Second and third year offer units on other aspects of the law including corporate regulation, property law, evidence and criminal procedure, statutory regulation, and legal practice and conduct. You can also attend La Trobe's winter school in Shanghai and summer school in Hong Kong or Geneva, and access summer and winter school electives from the Master of Laws in Global Business Law. You may gain practical experience through La Trobe's judicial mentoring program that allows you to spend a semester shadowing a judge or magistrate. You can also undertake supervised legal work in La Trobe's law clinic and at organisations like the Consumer Action Law Centre, the Office of Public Advocate and the Environmental Justice. La Trobe's moot court gives students more practical experience through simulated activities like witness examination, negotiation and client interviews. We also have an exchange program that gives students the chance to study with La Trobe's partner universities around the world. Bendigo students can transfer to Melbourne in third year or continue on at Bendigo through e-learning options.
